CLUBMAN'S RIDE TO USK

09.1.11

Sunday morning looked to be a bright sunny day as we set off from home. All was not well though on the old abandoned road to New Inn, in the night it had frozen and there was a lot off ice on the road. It was the same for the lane toward Monkswood and Glascoed making cycling quite perilous! Walking was the safest option, even then our bikes had a tendency to slide off uncontrollably. The sun was shining and the main road was clear and a fast ride to Usk was enjoyed. After a quick stop for breakfast we decided that the main road to Caerleon was the safest option. After a few miles of not-so-enjoyable cycling on this busy road we turned off at Llangybi and took the narrow Ton lane. This quiet track again had ice but it was better to walk along this peaceful, tranquil, lane than stay with all that noisy traffic! Arriving in Llandegfeth we viewed the footbridge where we played as children, it was then a quick ride back to Croesyceiliog along the Trehebert road....17 miles.
