I cycled out to meet Nick at our old meeting point at 'Blackout Junction' near Newbridge-on-Usk, years ago when Nick used to live in Newport many epic rides started from here. This time Nick had cycled up from Newport where he had just finished a night shift at Maindee fire station. The road along the flood plains of the river Usk was taken and then a relaxed ride on the flood-route to Usk. Here pies were bought and eaten, after this the road to Cefn Ila beckoned. It started to rain and jackets were donned. Our spirits were not dampened and a there was good climb enjoyed up to the the golf course that overlooks Llandegveth Reservoir. The ride continued to Glascoed where it stopped raining, we then  finished off by climbing up to New Inn and along the old abandoned road to Croesyceiliog.....33 km  with 537m of climbing.
