A CLUBMAN'S RIDE IN THE USK VALLEY

25.11.12

A dry Sunday morning followed a week of torrential rain and gales. The ride started along Trehebert road and up the steep path to Croesyllwarch. From here the road descends to Newbridge on Usk, the  river Usk was completely in flood and there was a lot of fun to be had trying to keep our feet dry whilst cycling through the watery roads. The road at Llanllowel was impassable, a young Czech cyclist told us the only way to Usk was via the flood route. Although this lane is one of our favourite tracks, this must have been the first time the Bikebrothers have used it for it's intended purpose! In Usk however, the deluge had taken it's toll on the Olway Inn, it was engulfed by water, making a  very sad sight indeed. After pies, the ride took us away from the flooded  Usk valley, back home via Prescoed, Coed-y-Paen and the Trehebert road....30km with 574 metres of climbing.
