With temperatures just above freezing The Brothers set out on a Saturday afternoon. There was a bitterly cold wind blowing from Russia over the Baltic sea so the ride was to be a short one. However, beside this, the meander out along Trehebert road and the short steep climb up to Croesyllwarch was quite enjoyable. The Usk valley, after Llantrisant, was a hard slog into the the wind but was still pleasant. The roads were unusually quiet probably due to a big rugby match being shown on TV. After Usk, the ride up to the Lakeside golf course was a changing experience, for years I have cycled up this climb thinking of it as a chore but this time in the late afternoon I really enjoyed it. At the top it is not particularly high but there is a very gratifying view of the surrounding areas. From here we descended down to Glascoed and the ride was finished off through New Inn and the old abandoned road to Croesyceiliog....31km with 351 metres of ascent.
