Nick's maiden voyage with his Omega Helix was to be a ride over the mountain pass alongside the Blorenge at 561metres.The titanium framed bike was equipped with Campagnolo Veloce, it certainly was very light but being a traditionalist I was unsure about it's looks! We ambled up the lanes to Goytre and then out to Llanover. After going over the Monmouthshire Brecon canal the climb starts with a pleasant ride through some woodland. We stopped at an old run-down farmhouse to have a chat with the friendly farmer, that we see most years, about the ewes and the lambs. The  climb then broke into a spectacular ride on to the open mountain, the twin radio masts were our marker in the distance and before long we were going over top. After that a fast descent was enjoyed down the valley to Pontypool, we did a bit of sightseeing here before riding home. Nick was pleased with his new bike even though the front mech was not working properly due to the braze-on lug flexing!
