FEBRUARY TREASURES - A ride over Wentwood.
On a bitterly cold Sunday morning I cycled to Newport city to meet Nick at Maindee Fire Station. We were in search of February treasures, something that would wake us out of the slumber of winter and herald the new spring and summer. All was well as the cycling took us out of the City. The ride up the cycle lane, alongside the main A 48 road was a good starter for things to come. An icy country lane ride was then taken along the flat land to Bishton. The sun was shining and it was not long before we reached Llanvaches. Here we stopped off to meet Nick's daughter Suzanne who was at the nearby stables with her horse. From here it was a gentle climb over Wentwood (280m) and then a fast descent into Usk. It was then a short ride home on the ‘traditional' via Prescoed, Coed y Paen and the Trehebert road. This impressive ride seemed to be our wake up call for the start of the coming season, with dreams of warmer weather and plenty of country lanes ahead!...35 miles.
