The end of April was near and the weekend was again blessed with good weather! After leaving Croesyceiliog at 17:00, our ride was to take us up the cycle track through Pontypool, Tal-y-Waun and Cwmafon. There were good views over to Myndd Garn Clochdy. We then dropped down Shop Lane to the bottom of the valley, from here it was a steady climb on the unmade road through the Blaenafon Community Wood. The Bike Brothers stopped here for a bite to eat before making our way up the forest track that would bring us out on the Llanover mountain road . We were heralded with spectacular views of the Brecon Beacons and the other surrounding mountains. The ride down the road to Llanover offers dramatic views and after going past a ramshackle old farm, this descent turns into a brake grabbing teeth clenching ride. We stopped on top of the canal bridge to assess our options of a route home, the canal tow path would not have normally been an option this year but the unusually dry weather meant that it looked like a good alternative tonight! There was a fair lick of speed attained along this path, a bit rough in places though. Many toads had to be avoided, but before long the lamps were lit at 20:45 and we arrived on the road in New Inn. From here Nick and I cycled through the village and along the old abandoned road to Croesyceiliog.
