The Return of the Bike Brothers - LLanover Road

After over four years the Bike Brothers were to ride again. It was a Sunday morning 09.00, the weather was warm and sunny. We met in Croesyceiliog by Ashford Hall and hit the road for New Inn. Soon we were on the cycle track, our destination was Blaenafon. I was riding a Raleigh cyclo-cross aluminium bike, whilst Nick was on a Scott plastic bike! It was a far cry from the old days when we used to ride steel bikes with Reynolds tubing! Soon we cycling through Pontypool and Abersychan. The cycle-track follows the course of the old railway and has a gentle gradient all the way. Upon reaching Blaenafon we dropped down the valley and climbed the other side. The Llanover road took us out over the mountain with beautiful spectacular views that had been forgotten about. Dropping down on a forestry track we sooon arrived at the Goose and Cuckoo pub. From here the winding tracks took us to the Monmouthshire Brecon canal. At Goytre Wharf, which has a large mooring area for the canal boats, we stopped here for a bite to eat in the cafe. The canal tow-path was used to Panteg where we paid our respects to our Grandmother and Grandfather in the cemetery. After that it was a quick ride along the old abandoned road to Croesyceiliog.
