THE MAY LANES
It was a beautiful May Sunday morning. I met Nick by the bus stop in Croesyceiliog. Our route was to take us out along the old abandoned road to New Inn. There was a bit of a breeze blowing in our direction but it was easy to ride this off on such a glorious morning along the wooded lanes to Glascoed and then a gentle climb up Rumble Street to Goytre. From here the golden lanes beckoned. The ride took us through Croes Llanfair and then through leafy sweet smelling paths untill we were in the heart of the countryside. We where now on the edge of paradise as the sun shone but we turned back at Coed Morgan as this was only to be a short ride. The quick meander back led us through Llanarth as a cricket match was in progress and then the slight climb to Bettws Newydd was then taken. There were many cyclists out and about on this fine morning.a A fast ride to Usk filled us with vigour before cycling an excellent ‘traditional' through Prescoed, Coed-y-Paen and the Trehebert road....32 miles.
