OVER WENTWOOD in the darkness.
A May Day weekend and I met Nick in Newport City again. As we cycled off through the streets our route took us past Liswerry pond, an unusual fishing lake in the city. Here we saw an otter, we were informed it was one of a family that lived in the moor land drainage tracks of the city. It was a natural urge to escape the confines of the metropolis. Before long we were once out again on the sprawling moor lands of the Caldicot Levels. We then took the narrow and remote path to Llanvaches. A climb in the darkness over Wentwood filled us with an atmospheric glow on that warm evening. A swooping, gliding descent to Llantrisant was enjoyed before cycling through Newbridge-on-Usk and home via the Trehebert road....40 miles.
