JANUARY RIDE OVER WENTWOOD
After the freezing weather of the New Year it had now turned milder, in Wales that means torrential rain, however, there was a break in the weather as I cycled to Newport City to meet Nick at the Fire Station. It was our first ride of 2009. It was a quiet Sunday morning as the ride took us along the levels of Nash. After visiting the church at St Bride's, which was also the site of a mediaeval village, we cycled to Llanvaches and then over the forest of Wentwood. After a quick stop for brunch, a fast descent down to the Usk valley was enjoyed. At Newbridge-on-Usk the river had flooded, this is usual after heavy rain. A quick cycle along the Trehebert road took us home to Croesyceiliog....30 miles.
