ALONG THE MOORS AND OVER WENTWOOD

27.11.11

The mild weather continued as I cycled toward Newport. It was Sunday morning and I was to meet Nick at Maindee Fire Station. The tide was high as I went past the river Usk and over the footbridge to the eastern side of the City. From the Fire Station the City was quickly left behind as the lanes along the moor of Nash were traversed. Eventually we were to arrive at the village of Llanvaches, from here the road climbed upwards past Wentwood reservoir and into the forest which over looks the Severn Estuary. It was a cold descent down to Llantrisant village, but we were to warm up along the road to Newbridge-on-Usk. Another climb up to the village of Tredunock saw Nick getting in the Christmas spirit by bizarrely picking some  holly and mistletoe - ripping his jacket in the process! It was a short ride along Treherbert road to arrive back in Croesyceiliog for lunch....30 miles.
