WHITECASTLE FOR LUNCH

15.05.10

Summer was getting closer as I took my new Ribble bike to meet Nick in Croesyceiliog. The streets had not been properly aired  and cycling along the sweet smelling lanes of Glascoed and Goytre, was an uplifting joy. After taking on board provisions at Usk, the sun drenched golden fields of rape toward Raglan were passed through. It was like the brothers, had run accidentally into a Van Gough painting! After a while, the myriad of lanes of northern Gwent were tackled with increasing vigour. The previously mud stricken Offas' Dyke path to Whitecastle, had turned dry and dusty, my new bike performed well up the lane and before long we rested at the castle to eat our brunch. After talking to some American gentlemen, the descent to Llantilio Croesenny was cooling. However ,there was plenty of time to warm up with an excellent ride, through Llanarth, Croes Llanfair and Nantyderry. The canal was joined at Goytre where ,a rough fast few miles were enjoyed to New Inn and then home on the old abandoned road ....42 miles.
